When Life Feels Heavy: A Gentle Reminder of Your Soul Purpose

Sunlit moss-covered rocks and lush greenery beside a quiet creek, inviting reflection and a sense of calm.
When life feels heavy, return to what brings you back into alignment.

It's easy to feel worn down by the weight of everyday life. No matter how much you do, there's still more - and it just all feels…heavy.

In Western culture, we place a great deal of focus on our careers. So much so that it often overshadows anything deeper than "the grind" of 40+hour workweeks. It's usually the first question we ask when we're meeting someone new - "What do you do?"

However, your profession isn't necessarily tied to your Soul Purpose. You might be called to provide a safe space for others to grow. Your Purpose may be to spread joy in the everyday. You may challenge the status quo. It’s less about what you do and more about how you’re called to show up in the world.

Your Soul Purpose is a non-physical calling, unique to you, that feels both meaningful and energizing. It's the thing that, when you move toward it, your heart feels lighter. It is your reason for being (or as the French say, raison d'etre). :)

Questions for contemplation: Do you know what your Soul Purpose is? Are you doing something - however small - each day to feed that purpose? If not, what’s holding you back?

I've known what my Soul Purpose is for years, but for the past 24 months I lost sight of it. I neglected to feed that part of my soul and my spirit suffered for it. I allowed myself to get bogged down in the tedium of the day-to-day. I told myself I wasn't ready; I wasn't good enough; I didn't know enough; I was "too sick" to spend time and energy in those things because then I wouldn't have the time or energy to show up in my other roles (as a mom, a wife, caring for myself, etc.).

What I'd forgotten - and needed someone to remind me (see my upcoming blog on Unexpected Messengers for more on that!) - was this: doing something small each day to move toward your Soul Purpose is what creates alignment. When you align with your Soul Purpose, your spirit feels lighter. And even the tedium begins to soften.
